Baylor-St. Luke's Medical Center is hiring a Flow Cytometry Specialist.  The successful candidate will work closely with our supervisor, medical director, and laboratory director in the validation and implementation of clinical flow cytometry testing for leukemia/lymphoma.

Position Summary

Responsible for ensuring competence of the clinical, technical and scientific aspects of Hematology, Coagulation and Flow Cytometry. Provides accurate, efficient and cost effective testing of patient samples to aid in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Provides technical expertise to BSLMC Laboratory and other regional or Texas division institutions.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent science degree

 

Licensure/Certification:

MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP)

 

Minimum Experience:

Five (5) years of intermediate clinical laboratory experience in a high-complexity hospital or commercial laboratory performing Flow Cytometry and 8-color analysis.
Two (2) years’ experience in technical development of methods and software applications and DIVA software, gating and analysis of data

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilties:

Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements.
Advanced experience establishing, writing and maintaining SOPs for validation, implementation, quality control, proficiency testing, patient testing and specimen handling and processing.
 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Advanced degree, additional education, coursework and advanced training in flow cytometry, 10 color analysis, special techniques and diagnostic protocols
2. Previously certified in flow cytometry specialty
3. Ten (10) years of clinical laboratory experience in a high complexity hospital or commercial laboratory setting performing flow cytometry with at least 4 years of experience in technical development of methods and software applications managing or supervising testing personnel.

 

Position Responsibilities:

1.     Meet or exceed all standards of high complexity testing personnel under current CLIA regulations.

2.     Coordinate all technical functions in area of expertise. Ensure all regulatory requirements of CAP, AABB and CLIA are satisfied.

3.     Responsible for current procedure manuals. Track delegated responsibilities and projects. Track staff competencies.

4.     Develop and construct multi-color antibody panels for flow cytometric analysis.

5.     Manage technical aspects of the flow cytometer, including troubleshooting and daily quality control performance and review.

6.     Educate and support laboratory staff and clients. Collaborate with team members, supervisors, pathologists to meet all technical needs of the section and clients.

7.     Ensure investigation and follow-up for all QC, proficiency testing or QA issues are completed and corrected; participate in section QA meetings; report to department QI meetings.

8.     Comply with lab and hospital safety procedures; practice body substance isolation protocols.

9.     Identify consumable supply needs to ensure adequate resources are available for testing and routine operations. Work with supervisors and administrative staff to meet all supply needs.

10. Ensures technical staff receives training and meet minimum competency requirements to perform assigned duties. Achieves technical quality by creating and maintaining orientation checklists and competencies for staff as needed. Works with supervisors, pathologists and staff to meet all technical needs of section.

11. Develop business relationships to provide high quality laboratory services for diagnostic use.
