Chief Scientist, Flow Cytometry

 

CytoVas, LLC is an early-stage in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) company developing novel methods to evaluate patient cardiovascular health utilizing cytomics and a unique computation analysis approach.  Spun out of the University of Pennsylvania in 2012, the company is profitable through partnerships with the AHA and Becton Dickinson.  We are now seeking a highly motivated senior level flow cytometry scientist for our facility located in Philadelphia. As the Chief Scientist, the selected candidate will design and implement multi-parameter flow cytometric protocols measuring cells and extracellular vesicles related to cardiovascular clinical and pre-clinical studies and instrument optimization on a unique BD Biosciences flow cytometry platform. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced scientist to work with an experienced and dedicated team of university and corporate partners to be a part of the first-in-sector clinical application of diagnostic flow cytometry in cardiovascular disease.

 

Job Summary

We seek an experienced, highly-motivated academic or corporate flow cytometrist to provide leadership in scientific strategy, assay development, and flow cytometry operations of CytoVas. The Chief Scientist, Flow Cytometry will be accountable for successful execution, where success includes on-time, on-budget, and high quality/compliant project results. The Chief Scientist will act as an integral part of the leadership team through involvement in proposal development, grant writing and serve as the primary scientific liaison with Investigator Sites. Supervision of junior level scientists will also be an important part of the job. Responsibilities will include oversight of projects from grant preparation/proposal development to final deliverables to the corporate partner or customer

 

Core Responsibilities

1. Project Leadership ensuring projects are executed according to defined quality standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), and all other appropriate guidelines to fulfill all federal and local regulations. Develops and maintains project plans for projects in accordance with SOPs. Independently prepares information for internal review meetings. Presents prepared information at partner and client project review meetings. Ensures completion of accurate project documentation, including interim reports, statistics and final report

2. Reporting – Maintains and evaluates project progress by maintaining timelines and other tracking/analysis tools. Produces and distributes status, resourcing, and tracking reports, and functional area plans to appropriate team members and senior management

3. Communication – Maintains effective communication with the project team through oral and written correspondence, project status reports, monthly progress reports and presentations. Attends staff meetings, project team meetings, and training sessions as recommended

4. Business Development –Interacts with the business development group to highlight scientific capabilities

5. Knowledge/Training – Demonstrates current working knowledge of high dimensional flow cytometric methods and the diagnostic environment. Facilitates team training in accordance with protocol and/or project requirements: including therapeutic, protocol specific, and process training.

 

Other Responsibilities
May represent company at professional meetings or seminars. Performs other work related duties as assigned. Minimal travel may be required (up to 20%) domestic and international.

 

Qualifications

Doctorate in Biological Sciences with a minimum of 5 years progressively increasing experience with high dimensional flow cytometry. A M.S. or B.S. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or equivalent with 10 years experience may be considered. Previous supervisory experience and knowledge of GLP/ICH/GCP are highly desirable, with direct experience in working with primary human cells.  Demonstrated record of publication and successful grant submission is also highly desirable. Thorough knowledge of immunology and the science of advanced flow cytometry is required. Presentation, documentation, interpersonal skills as well as competence with a team-oriented approach are important. Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and experience using Flow Cytometric analysis tools such as DIVA and FlowJo is required.
