We are looking for a knowledgeable, innovative, and passionate individual to join the busy and expanding team at the Rockefeller University Flow Cytometry Resource Center as a Senior Research Support Specialist.

 

The state-of-the-art Flow Cytometry Resource Center (FCRC, http://www.rockefeller.edu/fcrc/ ), as a Shared Resource Laboratory, serves over 350 investigators from over 60 laboratories of the Rockefeller University (www.rockefeller.edu), a leading biomedical Research Institute located on the Upper East Side of NYC.

 

FCRC staff provide assistance with experimental and panel design, advice on sample preparation, instrument operation training, troubleshooting, and data analysis consultation, as well as ongoing instrument maintenance.

 

Current instrumentation includes three BD FACSAriaII cell sorters, one ImageStream-X Imaging Flow Cytometer, one Cytek Aurora spectral analyzer, one BD LSR-Fortessa and two BD LSRIIs, one ThermoFisher Attune NxT, and one BD Accuri C6 with plans for future expansion. The Senior Research Support Specialist (Sr.RSS) will work in direct support of and in collaboration with the FCRC Director on technical and scientific tasks and initiatives, including but not limited to: commissioning of new instrumentation (including development of standard operating procedures for instrument operation); development, testing, and implementation of new methods and protocols for quality control, tracking, and standardization of the instruments; consultation, development, and troubleshooting on multicolor panel and experimental design; implementation of educational programs and development of new training materials.

The Senior Research Support Specialist will also guide FCRC users through projects, assist with data verification, and serve as the lead for developing and ensuring high standards for comprehensive flow cytometry data analysis. The Sr.RSS will also participate in daily FCRC operations, equipment troubleshooting, routine cell-sorting experiments, and maintenance of the Center's scientific equipment. The Sr.RSS will provide backup to the FCRC Operations Manager and/or Director as needed.

The Senior Research Support Specialist will undertake professional development by attending and participating in training courses, webinars, seminars, meetings, and conferences.

M.S. in biology or related field required; Ph.D. strongly preferred. Educational background and experience in immunology is preferred. The applicant must have a minimum of three years of experience in basic research-oriented flow cytometry, and a minimum of five concurrent or additional years' laboratory experience working with cell cultures and cells ex vivo. Competency with cell sorting is highly desirable.
