Wanted: Flow Cytometer Specialist

 

The VA San Diego Healthcare System Immunogenetics laboratory seeks a full time Flow Cytometer technologist.  Located in San Diego, the VA San Diego Healthcare System is adjacent to the University of California, San Diego Campus.  The laboratory is a CAP-certified, regional reference laboratory for the city of San Diego which provides diagnostic immunophenotyping to various academic and community institutions and it is an AIDS Collaborative Treatment Groups (ACTG) certified laboratory funded by the NIH to provide services to various adult and pediatric clinical trial protocols.  The candidate will be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the Beckon Dickinson FacsCanto and FacsCalibur flow cytometers.  The chosen candidate will provide technical support of the 4- and 6-color analysis for various clinical diagnostics and research projects.  The applicant will be required to have a BS, MS, or equivalent degree.  Solid background knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, or Immunology is preferred.  Experience in use of multi-color flow cytometer is required.  The successful candidate should have strong computer skills including knowledge of Windows and Macintosh and the use of B-D Cell Quest and Diva software.  Experience in the setup, use and maintenance of laser technology is a plus.  Excellent communication and written skills are required to provide competent support to facility users.
