The Developmental Therapeutics Program's (DTP) primary emphasis is on drug discovery and characterization, identification of new therapeutic molecular targets and participation in the evaluation of samples and results from animal models with a goal of identifying drugs with potential therapeutic value.
The Sr. Scientist will direct a pharmacokinetics (PK) program in support of preclinical and early clinical development of investigational drugs to treat cancer. Primary responsibilities include: serve as primary contact for DTP and other NCI technical staff regarding PK; design, implement, oversee and report on PK and metabolic studies of these agents in preclinical efficacy and/or PD studies; work closely with DTP bioanalytical chemists to establish appropriate methodology for drug quantitation in a variety of biomatrices, including tumor extracts; work closely with preclinical and clinical project leads and discipline leads to integrate PK studies into discovery/development projects; adapt PK approaches and methods to in vitro systems for evaluation of ADME-Toxicology properties. Additional responsibilities include: oversight of analytical equipment, including instrument maintenance; supervision of technical staff; sample management; publish scientific findings; and report on project findings at internal project team and program meetings.
REQUIRED:
- Possession of a Pharm. D degree from an accredited college or university and/or a Ph.D in pharmaceutical sciences or a related field. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to education requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of postdoctoral, competent, innovative research in Pharmacology or related field
- Experience in non-compartmental and compartmental pharmacokinetic studies is required, including familiarity with software modeling tools
- Additional knowledge of bioanalytical techniques, data analysis and study design
- Post-graduate experience with PK and metabolic studies of small molecules
- Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a team setting
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance
DESIRED SKILLS: - Independently evaluate HPLC , mass spectrometric, and other analytical assays
- Maintain a well controlled laboratory operation
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures
- Two years of post-graduate experience with PK and ADME studies of anticancer agents
- Ph.D in a relevant field of pharmaceutical sciences
