Job duties include:

  • Serve as expert in modern flow cytometry and confocal microscopy procedures to ICBR customers.
  • Provide support to ICBR customers in proper use of instrumentation, optimal experimental design and selection of best protocols to accomplish experimental aims.
  •  Provide input and recommendations to assist users of the facility in planning the best approaches for use of flow cytometry; Troubleshoot and resolve problems for self-use customers
  • Provide expertise to customers in accessing data quality and interpretation; Perform advanced data analysis for researchers using specialized data analysis software including DIVA 8.0, FCS Express 6.0, and FloJo 10.0
  •  Provide education, training, and consultation to core facility users/customers on flow cytometry and confocal microscopy instrument platforms
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of an OPS employee.
    Ensure optimal instrument performance via conducting periodic preventive maintenance; Perform daily instrument calibrations and monitor daily QC parameters according to established SOPs
  • Schedule instrument maintenance when appropriate.
  • Assist Core Scientific Director with the design of new training programs on instruments
  • Participant in user training sessions and presentations.
  • Create billing log conversions required for weekly invoicing; Review core billing data for accuracy and submit to manager/director for approval.
  • Utilize expert working knowledge of iLAB instrument scheduling and invoicing system to maintain up to date user reservation queue.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS and other institutional and government regulations.
  • Adhere to UF EHS compliance guidelines. Participate on the ICBR safety committee.
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory supply inventory.
  •  Clean/Autoclave glassware, supplies and biohazardous trash

 


There are two positions available in the Cytometry Core of the Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) at the University of Florida. ICBR’s mission is to serve as a work-class research support center that provides scientifically knowledgeable, technically superb scientific services to the University of Florida faculty, staff, graduate students, and other research partners throughout the state and nation. The ICBR Cytometry Core Research Facility Technician III will provide expertise and guidance to UF researchers on the effective application of flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. Duties include operation of various flow cytometry analyzers (BD Fortessa, BD Symphony A3, and BD Accuri C6), cell sorters (Sony SH800, FACS ARIA IIu) and the NanoSight NS300 nanoparticle analyzer. Key responsibilities include user instrument training, coordinating sample delivery and processing, performing data analysis, providing consultation to core facility users, developing and maintaining operational policies and procedures, and assisting with customer invoicing using the CrossLab system. Individual must be able to function with minimal supervision in a team environment, be reliable and punctual, and have attention to detail. Commitment to providing excellent customer service a must. Proficiency in MS Office and excellent oral and written communication skills required.

 

 

Minimum qualifications:


BA/BS in related scientific field required with hands-on experience in basic laboratory and scientific methods. Optionally, 4 years of experience in science related field with at least 3 years in core specific applications. Research-based experience preferred. Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

BS in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology or related scientific field with 1-4 years hands-on experience in basic research laboratory. 1-4 years hands on Flow Cytometry Experience.

Experience in standard operation of BD FORTESSA, BD CANTO II, and or other cytometers.

Proficient in use of Agilent Crosslab (iLab).
