PUCL Job#1292 Cell Sorter Operator (U.S. Gov’t NIH - Closes on Jan 8 (posted 2- dec)

Cell Sorter Operator (U.S. Gov’t Full Time Position, GS-0401-12), National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda MD USA

An exciting full-time flow cytometry position is available in the Experimental Transplantation and Immunotherapy (ETIB) Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, MD USA.  The NCI ETIB Flow Facility supports both basic biomedical research and clinical trials involving cancer biology, allogeneic bone marrow transplant and cell-based therapies.  While we are not a clinical flow lab, our facility provides cell sorting and high dimensional flow cytometry analysis services to clinical research projects both inside and outside ETIB.  We also support a variety of investigator-driven laboratory research projects.

About 50% of the position will require the operation and maintenance of a high-dimensional cell sorter dedicated to clinical research projects.  The applicant will also work closely with NCI clinicians and scientists in planning and carrying out the flow cytometry elements of existing and future clinical trials.

The other 50% of the position will involve assisting investigators with high-dimensional flow cytometry, including instrument maintenance, training, assistance with data acquisition and analysis and data presentation.  There will be many opportunities to collaborate with NCI investigators on flow-related projects, and to participate in internal projects in assay and technology development.

Our laboratory is well equipped with two BD FACSAria cell sorters, two BD Influx cell sorters (16 and 24 parameter), and multiple high-dimensional analyzers including a spectral cytometer.  We plan to add a spectral sorter in the near future.  We work closely with other resource facilities in ETIB (Preclinical Research, Mass Spec and T Cell Engineering) and are part of the vibrant community of cytometry shared resource laboratories in the NCI and the NIH.  We also do extensive cytometry education work within the NIH.

This is a Federal Full Time Employment (FTE) position at level GS-0401-12.  We will consider candidates at any education level with a strong background in the biological/biomedical and/or physical sciences.  While previous cell sorting experience is highly desirable, we will train candidates with solid experience in analyzer operation and flow cytometric analysis.    Previous experience in immune cell characterization, high-dimensional analysis and cytometry-related bioinformatics is also desirable.

Apply for the position through the USA Jobs website, position reference number NIH-NCI-DH-21-10971029 (https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/587586900).   You may contact me directly for more information (telfordw@mail.nih.gov), but applications must go through the USA Jobs site.  To see if you are eligible for GS-0401 employment, you can visit the pre-application checklist before applying (https://apply.usastaffing.gov/ViewQuestionnaire/10971029).
