Senior Research Scientist/CyTOF operation – UNC Chapel Hill, NC

 

The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the UNC Flow Cytometry Core Facility are accepting applications for a Senior Research Scientist to oversee the operation, maintenance and use of the Fluidigm Helios (CyTOF) cytometer.

 

Position Summary: The Senior Research Scientist will oversee the operation, maintenance and use of the Fluidigm Helios in a University Shared Resource Facility. The Senior Research Scientist will be a technology expert for the CyTOF instrumentation with experience with both operating and maintaining the instrument as well as serving providing expertise on the experimental design and data analysis. This will entail maintaining current knowledge of the state of the art in publications and applications. The Senior Scientist will be a collaborator on research grants and publications, assuring rigorous experimental design and working with members of the bioinformatics team for robust data analysis. This individual will be indirectly supervising investigators wishing to apply the technology to their research. He/she will offer technology seminars to departments within the University as well as at national and international research conferences.

 

Qualifications and Experience: Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience and demonstrated skill with flow cytometry. 
Experience with flow cytometry experimental design (sample preparation, instrument optimization, and data analysis)
Ability to identify and troubleshoot critical issues.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Detail-oriented with excellent organization and documentation skills. 
Strong communication skills including presentation skills and an ability to interact well with others.


Preferred:
Master’s degree, Ccy certification, ISAC membership
Previous experience with mass cytometry and analytical tools such as SPADE, VisNE, Gemstone and FCS Express. 
Additional experience with other high-end technologies such as imaging or mass spectrometry.
Willingness to work flexible/late shifts as needed is desirable.
