
Senior Assistant Scientist, In Vitro Operations, ANN ARBOR, MI
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform multicolor immunophenotyping in lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissue-derived samples including peripheral blood, bone marrow, spleen, and solid tumors (up to and exceeding 10 colors).
· Perform all aspects of flow cytometry including routine processing of tissues samples, staining, sample acquisition, and data analysis.
· Analyze flow cytometry data at various levels of complexity and generate client reports.
· Culture primary cells and cell lines under experimental conditions to conduct client studies and functional assays.
· Contribute to Materials and Methods sections of study reports. Possess basic scientific writing skills.
· Perform routine quality control procedures and maintenance for basic laboratory equipment as needed. Monitor and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
· Knowledge of and ability to adhere to accepted lab practices and procedures.
· Assist in development and validation of new applications and SOPs.
· Assist in the maintenance, expansion, and archiving of cell lines while utilizing aseptic technique.
· Responsible for scheduling activities such that client deadlines are met, while meeting the highest quality of laboratory standards.
· Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in life sciences or equivalent relevant experience required.
· EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years, with demonstrated experience in flow cytometry. Other cell and molecular skills a plus.
· OTHER: Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required. Ability to multitask and work in teams.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
· Works in a research environment with exposure to sharps and potentially caustic chemicals and substances of unknown hazard. Must function while adhering to various PPE requirements. Noise level in Cell Culture Laboratory is quiet to moderately quiet.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
· Ability to bend and move within cell culture hood.
· Regularly works near animals and with serum/cells with risk of exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases and biohazards.
· Laboratory is BioSafety Level II.
Additional:
· This position requires weekend, holiday and/or afterhours shift coverage, as needed.
