Senior Associate Scientist, Flow Cytometry

Cambridge, MA- Kendall Square

 

The Inflammation & Immunology Research Unit is seeking a highly motivated scientist to work in our expanding flow cytometry lab.  The applicant should have a solid background in flow cytometry and cell sorting.  The qualified candidate will be responsible for independently running FACS-based and other assays to support many early and late-stage projects.  In addition, the candidate will help train others on flow cytometry concepts including planning experiments, proper use of equipment, and correct data analysis.  The candidate should have a desire to build on their knowledge of flow cytometry and be excited to take on new technologies and methods pertaining to developing a state-of-the-art flow cytometry lab.

 

  • QC instruments on a daily basis and trouble shoot problems; build machine configurations and change configurations as needed.
  • Help train other users on all aspects of flow cytometry from planning experiments, acquisition and analysis.
  • Perform cell sorting and manage sort requests.
  • Characterize and qualify reagents to be used in assays, including FACS antibody panels and titers.
  • Develop and perform multicolor staining assays for primary human and mouse phenotyping experiments.
  • Work independently, seeking help as needed, to conduct various FACS-based screening assays for small molecule and protein therapeutics.
  • Perform data analysis using FACSDiva and FlowJo applications.
  • Interpret and summarize experimental data and report summaries in team meetings, as needed.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as CyTOF and desire to expand knowledge past traditional flow cytometry.
  • Experience working with liquid handling devices, or cytometers as part of a robotic automation suite, desirable.

Experience:

Successful candidates will have a BA or BS degree with 2+ years flow cytometry experience in appropriate scientific area related to position.

A degree in the following is strongly preferred:  Cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology or biochemistry.

 

Technical Skills:

Have an understanding of flow cytometry fundamentals and experience with analyzers including: BD LSRFortessa, Miltenyi MACSQuant and Intellicyt iQue Screener PLUS.

  • Experience cell sorting on a BD FACSAria and Sony SH-800 machines.
  • Comfortable developing and running 6+ color FACS panels.
  • General ability working with Windows and MAC operating systems and computer hardware/devices.

Software proficiency: Microsoft Office, FACSDiva, FlowJo, MACSQuantify, Forecyte and Graphpad Prism.
