FACS specialist in Functional Genomics, Research Scientist I/II, Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Boston)

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to join our dynamic and integrated Functional Genomics Team using the latest CRISPR-Cas genomic engineering technologies towards the discovery of novel genetic modifiers of Mendelian disorders. The successful candidate must be highly skilled in state-of-the-art Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) technologies and methodologies to support assay development and optimization for genetic screens in a variety of human cell types. This individual will have the opportunity to be an integral member of our multidisciplinary team and help shape our future activities in the discovery and validation of new therapeutic targets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, optimize, and perform flow cytometry to support functional genomic assay development for genetic screening.
• Interact, assist and perform flow cytometry with a multidisciplinary team to continuously optimize assay performance and readout. Applications include aseptic cell sorting and flow cytometric analysis.
• Perform maintenance and upkeep of state-of-the-art, multi-color flow cytometry instrumentation.
• Train and assist users in experimental design, troubleshooting and software analysis.
• Perform molecular biology/assays and techniques as needed (molecular cloning, ELISA, PCR, RT-PCR etc.).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in Molecular Biology or a related field.
• 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience with state of the art multi-laser flow cytometers.
• Extensive knowledge, experience and trouble-shooting abilities pertaining to all aspects of cutting edge flow cytometry.
• Experience with physiologically relevant cell based assay formats (iPSCs, NPCs, human primary cells, 3D culture and microfluidic platforms).
• Deep expertise in molecular biology and cell biology.
• Self-motivation, organization, effective communication and presentation skills
• Adept in solving/troubleshooting complex problems as well as the ability to navigate a fast-paced work environment.
