
Cytometry Core Lab Manager (Res Sci I)
The Cytometry Core Lab Manager will be responsible for the daily operations of the Cytometry Core which include management and maintenance of cytometers, cell sorters and other equipment managed by the core, training for new users, technical support related to the core, and the operation of a cost recovery center.
Overall, this position will perform the following:
- Procure materials, supplies and services;
- Operate a cost recovery center and monitor the budget;
- Manage instrument use through a GT based core facility management system;
- Train new users on instrumentation and provide technical support on projects;
- Work on a team to learn new instrumentation outside of the cytometry core;
- Write Standard Operating Procedures;
- Provide periodic reports to the core director.
The Cytometry Core Lab Manager will coordinate closely with and report to the Cytometry Core Director.
Additional Responsibilities include:
· Provide excellent customer service to core facility customers;
· Provide consultative services to users and operate a high-speed cell sorter
· Conduct complex cell sorting for the core facility;
· Assist core users with cell sorting experiments including technical aspects of instrument use, optimal experiment design, and data analysis;
· Perform daily instrument operation (cell sorter), maintenance, and troubleshooting;
· Maintain user schedule for local site and coordinate with the Core Director to ensure a smooth operation of the facility
· Ensure that data is transferred and removed from computers in accordance with core requirements;
· Maintain supply inventory necessary for uninterrupted site operation;
· Provide content for marketing of services and instruments within the cytometry core
· Participate in educational outreach activities, tours and workshop
Special/Preferred Requirements:
· At least three years of related experience operating a cell sorter, in core environment preferred;
· Extensive technical expertise in instrument quality control and routine maintenance, troubleshooting and advising on cell sorting strategies;
· Particular experience with the BD LSR Fortessa and BD FACS Aria series instruments is preferred, but not required;
· Experience with analyzing flow cytometry data
· Experience with sample preparation and cell staining techniques
· Must have experience with and be able to maintain a billing system and stock supply;
· Experience educating research personnel in proper usage of flow cytometers, sorters and related software are a plus;
· Technical knowledge of biosafety procedures and regulations associated with cell sorting is preferred.
