Sr Research Assistant, University of Louisville

 

This position requires developing micro vascular technique such as composite tissue transplantation, skin and solid organ transplant procedures. Conducts immunologic assays and procedures requiring familiarity with sterile tissue culture techniques. Performs cellular immunology procedures to include the isolation of tissues (spleen, lymph node, bone marrow), preparation of bone marrow chimeras, tissue immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometric analysis of research samples. Requires familiarity with basic laboratory techniques, such as preparing cell growth media, sorting media and preparation of samples for flow cytometry. Processes bone marrow and/or islets for use in clinical transplantation under FDA approved clinical trials. 

 

Position requires on-call duty, off-hour work and overtime. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory supplies and ensuring that all supplies are available before use. Performs core laboratory responsibilities, such as playing a vital role in preparation of standard operating protocols, Institutional Animal Care and Use documentation and compliance.

 

Position requires knowledge of safety standards and regulations and the ability to follow safety standards and procedures when working with hazardous materials and equipment. Position is also responsible for the Department Safety program. 

 

Assists with research budget and in training of other lab personnel in immunologic/molecular techniques.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Biology, Medical Technology, Nursing or a related field and two years of related experience. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements.
