JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – Flow Cytometry Research Technician

 

 

The J.J. MacIsaac Facility for Aquatic Cytometry at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences invites applications for a Flow Cytometry Research Technician.  The successful applicant will work closely with other members of the Core Facility to provide services and support to the aquatic and environmental science communities.  Minimum requirements are a BA or BS in the natural sciences and 1-2 years prior research experience in a marine or microbiology laboratory.  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and competence with Windows and Macintosh computer systems are required.  Preferred qualifications include previous experience running and analyzing flow cytometry samples and the identification of marine micro-phytoplankton.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform flow cytometric sample processing using a Becton Dickinson FACScan and imaging cytometer (FlowCAM), including troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Contribute to general facility maintenance, including restocking supplies, instrument maintenance and cleanup.
  • Adhere to and enforce proper safety practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as all general operational policies within the Facility.
  • Work will entail a mix of field-work at local coastal sites and lab-related sample processing and data analyses.
