Position Description: The primary duty of the Research Specialist will be cell sorting. In addition, the Research Specialist will perform quality control and cleaning on various flow cytometers (analyzers), as well as train users to operate flow cytometers. The Research Specialist will assist users in designing experiments, acquiring samples and analyzing data. In addition to running instruments, the Research Specialist will oversee the many users coming to use the instruments. As a recharge center, it is the staff’s responsibility to maintain a high level of excellence in every operation parallel to a commercial enterprise. Some work with human tissues under Biosafety level 2-containment is likely. All necessary training and protective gear will be provided.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of flow cytometry principles. Experience with instrument alignment, calibration and troubleshooting. Familiarity with Flow Cytometry analysis software. Flow cytometry is an exact science. Daily instrument maintenance and quality control monitoring are essential. In addition, as a customer service core, it is essential that each client’s research samples be handled with the highest of care and respect of the time, reagents and valuable research samples.
