PUCL JOB#1087 - FLOW CYTOMETY LAB POSITION - GENENTECH (SF) (06232016)

 

We are seeking a qualified technician to fill a position in a large core Flow Cytometry lab at a Scientific Researcher level (E-3).

 

The core FACS Lab serves all Genentech South San Francisco Research divisions and provides a variety of cytometry-based technologies. Sorting instrumentation includes 7 BD FacsArias, a BD Influx, and a Coulter MoFlo XDP. Analytical instrumentation includes 7 FacsCaliburs, a Fortessa, a Dual Fortessa, a BD FACSymphony X-30 Dual, and 3 BD LSRII’s. The Core Lab also has an Amnis ImageStream cytometer, and a CyTOF mass cytometer.

 

The Scientific Researcher will be responsible for daily instrument set-up and preparation, operation, maintenance, and trouble shooting of the analytical Flow Cytometers and the Cell Sorters in the Facs Lab. Additionally she/he will also be responsible, on a rotating basis, for doing cytokine analysis using the Luminex system for researchers at Genentech who may need this data. Instruments for managing the workload are 2 Hamilton Star robots for preparation, and 3 Luminex 200’s and 3 Flexmap 3D’s for analysis.

 

A BS or MS degree in the biological or physical sciences along with at least 3 years experience in FACS analysis and sorting is required. Good computer skills are essential. The candidate should be competent with the management, operation, and troubleshooting of several instrument platforms, as well as with the various flow cytometry analysis and sorting software packages, including Diva, CellQuest, and FlowJo.

 

In addition and equally important, the applicant should be comfortable in a service environment, be a strong team player, and be able to multi-task as necessary. The candidate should possess good communication skills, and have the ability to easily work with a large, diverse group of FACS lab users. Some later hours will be required.
