The Flow Cytometry Specialist assists the principal investigator with the collection and analysis of data for specified research projects.  Performs laboratory experiments with minimal supervision while learning and developing new procedures. Learns and develops new procedures. Manages specific, but limited, laboratory functions and trains laboratory personnel. Demonstrates effort to increase knowledge of a specific area of research and participates in the presentation and/or publication of research results.  Properly conducts specific projects and maintains efficient laboratory operations.  Performs other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field is required

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Eight (8) years of work experience in contemporary flow cytometry, with experience in the operation of BD Biosciences cell sorters and experience in the operation of BD Biosciences analyzers is required with a bachelor's degree.
  • Seven (7) years of work experience in contemporary flow cytometry, with experience in the operation of BD Biosciences cell sorters and experience in the operation of BD Biosciences analyzers is required with a master's degree.
  • Four (4) years of work experience including post-doctoral and/or technical staff experience in contemporary flow cytometry, with experience in the operation of BD Biosciences cell sorters and experience in the operation of BD Biosciences analyzers is required with a Ph.D.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge of flow cytometry applications with data analysis skills. Strong computer skills with both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
