The Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado seeks a highly motivated and skilled lab director to train and assist users in flow cytometry and cell sorting operations in a newly established flow facility. The ideal candidate will have experience operating/maintaining flow cytometers, performing cell-sorting, developing cell-based assays, performing the analysis and interpretation of complex data and operating a cost recovery center.
The Immunology/Microbiology User group Cytometry Director will coordinate closely with and report to the Immunology/Microbiology User group Cytometry Executive Director.

Skills and Knowledge:
· Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain the theoretical basis of the work performed
· Ability to perform research procedures independently
· Experience in teaching flow cytometry and machine trouble shooting
· Demonstrated ability in a variety of flow cytometry techniques
· Computer literacy with an emphasis on the analysis of complex data generated using flow cytometry
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
· Perform daily instrument operations, maintenance and troubleshooting.
· Conduct complex cell sorting for the customers of the facility.
· Maintain of consumable stocks for general use and uninterupted operations of the facility.
· Interact with BD service engineers for trouble shooting of equipment.
· Maintain user schedule and coordinate with the User Group Director to ensure a smooth operation of the facility.
· Develop of new courses in Flow cytometry for the novice and experienced users within the department.
· Provide direction to Research Technologists, Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.
· Ensure that data are transferred and/or removed from computers in accordance with User Group requirement.
· Maintain and operate the iLab scheduling and billing system.
· Attend laboratory and research meetings, as necessary.
· Stay current with information relative to the field of flow cytometry and research being performed by other groups
· Conduct literature searches to provide department updates on recent works using flow cytometry techniques.

Core Lab equipment includes-
BD Aria Fusion 4 laser sorter, BD Fortessa X-20 5 laser analyzer, BD Caliber 2 laser analyzer
Minimum Requirements
Biological, Chemistry or similar science Bachelor’s degree with experience in flow cytometry
This position will interact with professional research staff, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Fluent English is required.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or Masters degree with flow cytometry experience.
Preference will be given to applicants with a strong background in Immunology and application of flow cytometry to immunologic problems.
Experience with Diva 6 and 8.0, SPICE, CellQuest, FlowJo and viSNE softwares.
Other Conditions
Work hours need to be flexible. They will usually run between 9am-6pm Monday to Friday and will occasionally require evening support.
Salary negotiable and will be based on knowledge and experience.
