Research Associate Position in Flow Cytometry

Location:        Asterias Biotherapeutics, Fremont, CA

 

Description:

Asterias Biotherapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate with a strong background in flow cytometry and other cell-based assays.  As part of the Assay Services group, the successful candidate will perform bioanalytical assays to support the development of novel stem cell therapies.

 

 

Responsibilities:

·      Primarily conduct flow cytometry assays to characterize stem cells and differentiated cells; as needed, run ELISAs and qPCRs

 

·      Maintain database of the results for comparison/analysis

 

·      Track assay and control performance over time

 

·      Culture mammalian cells and produce cell banks

 

·      Track and maintain pre-tested reagent stock, controls and cell banks

 

·      Transfer cell-based and other assays that have completed feasibility assessment from R&D into Analytical Technologies for further cell characterization and use

 

·      Write and review analytical protocols and analytical development reports

 

·      As needed, assist with assay qualifications

 

·      Adhere to timelines for all lab work and documentation; work with minimal supervision

 

·      Participate in and present at relevant departmental meetings

 

·      Collaborate closely with personnel in other departments

 

·      Perform general lab maintenance duties
 

Qualifications:

BA or BS in scientific field, or equivalent, with 1 or more years of industry experience.  Must have extensive flow cytometry experience and demonstrated trouble-shooting abilities.  Experience with various other techniques including mammalian cell culture, qPCR, ELISA, cell imaging, colony assays and microscopy is desired.  Previous work with stem cells is a plus.  Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.  Ability to work on fast-paced, collaborative teams and demonstrate flexibility in response to changing priorities is a must.
