The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) is currently seeking a Flow Cytometry Operator II for its Florida facility. The selected candidate will operate and maintain multi-laser instruments used in fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) and analysis. Candidate will demonstrate technical expertise to guide facility users in experiments that demand the Flow Cytometry Core Facility resources. Will perform daily calibration, operation, maintenance and basic repair of up to five high-speed cell sorters by Becton Dickinson: two BD FACSArias, Beckman Coulter: two Moflo XDPs, and Propell: one Avalon. Will perform daily calibration, operation and basic maintenance of eight analyzers by Becton Dickinson: four BD LSRIIs including two with BD Hi throughput sampling systems, three BD FACSCaliburs, and one BD FACs Canto. Will perform low, medium, and high-speed bulk and custom multi-parameter cell sorting of various cell lines, cell types, and microorganisms including: human, mouse, zebrafish, fly, bacteria, yeast and algae. Will perform multi-parameter analysis using various software including: DiVa, FlowJo, CellQuest and ModFit. Will provide training and assistance to facility users in experimental design, instrument operation, and software analysis. Will provide training and assistance to select users for operation of the BD Facs Arias for performance of bulk and custom multi-parameter cell sorting experiments. Will assist fellow operators in trouble-shooting of sorting experiments and training of facility users. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor degree in a Biological Science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Minimum 3 years flow cytometry experience with a focus on high-speed cell sorting. Technical expertise with high-speed cell sorters and analyzers used in Flow Cytometry. Basic PC/MAC skills and the ability to learn new technology. Ability to work well with others. Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
