Specialist: The UC Berkeley Cancer Research Laboratory (CRL) is seeking to hire a specialist to serve in the Flow Cytometry Facility unit, to begin as soon as possible. This position will use flow cytometry to perform research with other campus biomedical scientists in project design, analysis and, technical assistance. The successful candidate will also help in managing the flow cytometry facility.
Specific duties include: working with the research team to analyze results and prepare recommendations; designing methods suitable for specific research and interpreting the corresponding data; assisting researchers in reviewing and creating publication-quality documents related to flow cytometry data; making independent decisions as required, which may impact the research team or its assigned projects; developing and writing a protocol manual for graduate student researchers in training. In addition, the Specialist will be responsible for the long-term planning of the facility operation and its instrumentation needs; the financial management of the facility; and running the facility with the assistance of Staff Research Associates, including trouble-shooting occasional equipment problems, and coordinating repairs when needed.
Qualifications: Applicants must possess at least a BA/BS degree in Biology or a related field by the date of hire and have a minimum of 8 years of experience working in a basic research-oriented flow cytometry facility; and will have in-depth expertise in all aspects of flow cytometry and must be able to work with faculty and researchers in developing flow cytometry applications. The successful candidate will be familiar with Becton-Dickinson LSRII, LSRFFortessa, Cytopeia INFLUX sorter, Beckman-Coulter Epics, FC500, XL analyzer and Dako-Cytomation Moflo High Speed Sorter; In addition, the Specialist must demonstrate a great ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with a diverse population of users.
This position reports to the manager of the facility and the director. This appointment may be extended. Annual full-time salary: $64,404 or $70,812, depending on qualifications.
