PUCL Job#1002 - Flow cytometry technologists , Dallas, TX

 Flow cytometry  technologists  process and evaluate various types of specimens which consist of blood, bone marrow, tissue and fluids for immunophenotyping.  The technologist is responsible for a variety of routine and special technical procedures relating to the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing of specimens.  The technologist is able to perform such duties as operate flow cytometry equipment, perform quality control, concentrate on detailed work, and evaluate data.   The technologists  are expected to perform at the routine level as described below, but also to become familiar with more advanced  flow cytometry technology with supervisory guidance.  This position is a full time position [Tues-Sat; various shifts]

 

Key Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs proper specimen identification, handling, labeling, preservation (if applicable), processing and storage of specimens.  Performs processing that may require manipulation to produce flow cytometry results for interpretation.

  • Calibrates, operates and maintains all reagents, instrumentation and equipment relative to Flow cytometry.  Follows all Quality Control, Quality Assurance and preventative maintenance requirements for all related instrumentation for flow cytometry procedures as identified in the Standard Operation Procedure Manual.

  • Evaluates the validity of laboratory patient data according to the principles of accuracy, precision methodology and Quality Control comparison data.  Records any corrective action associated with out-of -range quality control data.
  • Prepares slides for staining or other departmental testing.
  • Performs all Proficiency/Blind Split analysis as required by CLIA.
  • Records and reports results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Has a good working knowledge of the Laboratory Information system.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Monitors inventory and assists in ordering of supplies.
  • Performs other duties as appropriate to the function of the flow cytometry section.
  • Works closely with and provides support for pathologists, directors, supervisors, laboratory assistants, and sales team.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Complies with health and safety policies, procedures and practices.
  • Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological sciences
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical laboratory practice.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration:  ASCP or equivalent            
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills:  Previous flow cytometry experience; Knowledge of Laboratory Information system and Microsoft Office products. 
  • Working Conditions:  Risk of exposure to bio-hazardous and chemical materials.
