Role Description
Responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies with research staff in a biomarker focused flow cytometry lab. This senior level scientist will act as technical expert and scientific lead regarding cellular markers using FACS and cell imaging technologies to address regulated preclinical and clinical translation of biomarkers for establishing proof of mechanism for Pfizer drug candidates. Responsible for oversight of the flow cytometry core laboratory and the research staff, biomarker discovery and development, assay standardization, and contribute toward staff training and professional development. Provide strategic direction and guidance to Scientists and Research Associates in their daily experiments. Guide team in a matrix environment. The person should have proven experience to lead assigned staff in the delivery of flow and cell imaging-based biomarkers in animal and clinical studies, and have strong knowledge of biological systems and cellular function to enable discovery research units.
Responsibilities
* The successful candidate will have experience developing partnerships in a matrix environment, influencing project strategies, and leadership in technology development and implementation.
* Candidate must have experience training and developing FACs scientists in a team environment. Other responsibilities include independent planning of laboratory activities, understanding and influencing therapeutic area biomarker strategies to use biomarkers in scientific decision-making.
* Successful performance includes leadership in all phases of FACs laboratory operations including technology evaluations, the development of sample preparation, separation and detection methods, data analysis, interpretation, reporting and follow up discussions with the project teams on utilizing the data in appropriate decision making.
* Proactively gathers input from colleagues, teams & management to avoid/address issues at functional level and participates on cross discipline matrix teams
* Excellent oral/written communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to clearly & concisely communicate bioanalytical information (including Q&A)
* Understanding of "fit-for-purpose" assay development and support. Ability to effectively balance assay rigor against resource needs and study goals
* Knowledge and understanding of GLP/GCP guidance for execution of preclinical and clinical studies supporting NCE's
* Publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and external and internal presentations are expected.
Qualifications
* Minimum Experience:
* Bachelor (>12 years), Master (>8 years), or Doctorate Degree (> 6 years) in relevant scientific field with industrial experience ; Experience in development, characterization, and implementation of FAC based assays; Minimum of 5 years leading a scientific team, working through others, technical leadership and innovation, and mentoring
* Preferred Experience:
