Interdisciplinary Scientist

The NIDCR is seeking an interdisciplinary scientist to manage the Combined Technical Research Center (CTRC) in the Division of Intramural Research. The CTRC contributes to the research mission of NIDCR by providing biotechnology services to NIDCR scientists in support of their research. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall administrative and scientific operation of a multi-service biotechnology Flow Cytometry/Sorting, Genomics-Molecular Biology-DNA Sequencing facility.
Qualifications:
Eligible individuals will have a doctoral degree with a concentration in a relevant area, e.g., immunology, molecular biology, chemistry, and/or protein/peptide chemistry. Candidates must have specialized experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting and established knowledge of the theory and practice of methods used in flow cytometry/cell sorting. In addition, familiarity in multidisciplinary techniques related to laser micro-dissection, genomics and basic bioinformatics analysis, and/or the synthesis, isolation, purification, characterization and applications of nucleic acids (e.g., DNA sequencing technologies) would be advantageous in this position. Also required are skill and hands-on experience in the operation of the sophisticated instrumentation used in this multi service biotechnology core facility and strong organizational and leadership skills. Creativity is also desired, e.g., the ability to implement new or updated core services based on changes in technology and needs of the research organization.
This is a staff scientist position. These positions can be appointed for up to four years at a time. Subsequent renewals are possible depending upon performance and programmatic need.
