Position Title: Clinical Immunology Technical Specialist:

Location: Chantilly, VA, U.S.A.

General Purpose of the Job:

  • This position is responsible for developing, troubleshooting, maintaining and performing laboratory assays for the detection and characterization of antibodies, antigens, cytokines, chemokines, complement components, identification of lymphocyte subsets, and evaluation of cellular immunity in clinical specimens. The position will ensure that assays are validated and performed in accordance with strict quality standards. The position will also ensure that results are generated in a timely manner to meet client expectations and that appropriate staff are trained to perform these assays.

  • The position reports to The Laboratory Manager

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance, training and problem solving on all immunology-based assays that are performed in the laboratory.
  • Perform day to day tasks to ensure that immunology assays are performing according to expectation and meet all quality standards. This includes ensuring and maintaining documentation that all instruments and reagents are operating according to specification.
  • Develop and/or maintain quality standards that meet CAP requirements for accreditation of Immunology, Flow Cytometry, Histocompatibility, Transfusion Medicine, and other areas relevant to immunology testing as applicable.
  • Participate in the day to day testing of specimens and working to ensure turn-around-times are met.
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures describing the appropriate technique for all immunology-based assays and ensuring that all technologists performing the analysis have been fully trained with appropriate documentation.
  • Develop and validate new immunology-based assays as required by clients.
  • Introduce commercially available assays and instrumentation in order to ensure that the laboratory is operating on current technology and platforms.
  • As necessary Interact with clients and internal scientific and sales staff to develop proposals and guidance on laboratory capabilities.
  • Work with lab management to ensure that the immunology functions within the lab are adequately resourced and equipped to meet the current and future needs of Eurofins Medinet.
  • Work with laboratory staff to ensure the timely purchase of all supplies and equipment for immunology-based testing to meet resource demands and cost control efforts.
  • Assist the laboratory in its endeavors to comply with the requirements of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), if required, the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and other relevant regulations. Ensure all QC requirements are performed and drive issue resolution within the laboratory.
  • Attend all appropriate meetings as the immunology representative.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Training, experience and extensive technical knowledge of immunological assays , techniques and platforms to include, but not limited to,  ELISA/EIA, IFA microscopy, flow cytometry, multiplex assays, and allergen-specific IgE. 
  • A working knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical and diagnostic immunology to  include HLA antibodies, cytokines, infectious disease serology, complement, immunophenotyping, autoimmunity, cellular immune function assays, and in vitro allergen testing.
  • Ability to learn new techniques to support the future business interests of Eurofins Medinet.
  • Ability and willingness to implement positive change within the laboratory to improve processes.
  • Incumbent should meet qualifications for high complexity Technical Supervisor in the area of Diagnostic Immunology as defined in the CLIA regulations, section 493.1449.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in a laboratory performing high complexity immunology and immunodiagnostic techniques.

 

Education:

M.S. or Ph.D degree in a relevant clinical science or medical technology from an accredited institution (preferably in a clinical immunology-related discipline).
