Applications Scientist – Cytometry and Cell Biology 

Reports to:           Director, Advanced Platforms

Work Location:   Bedford, MA

Cytonome/ST is a biotechnology instrument design company that develops cell isolation solutions for the cell therapy, industrial agriculture, and life sciences markets. The Applications Scientist will be an integral part of our product development process by contributing scientific scrutiny, experimental support and creative solutions for our target markets and customers. The Applications Scientist will operate in an applied science environment surrounded by complex, multi-disciplinary technologies which allows for exposure to multiple diverse markets.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with an inter-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists to define next generation cell analysis and cell sorting equipment and microfluidic technologies.
  • Design and execute scientific studies independently and in collaboration with R&D Engineering to improve system performance and robustness.
  • Stay on top of the latest scientific understanding of cell therapy, reproductive biology, and flow cytometry.
  • Interact with current and future customers to align our R&D efforts with application and market needs.
  • Design and execute a variety of molecular, cellular, and/or analytical assays for reproductive cells and mammalian cells, and document, distill and present experimental methods and results.
  • Develop and execute experimental protocols and analytical methods that are compatible with flow cytometry methods and related applications.
  • Analyze and interpret results in the context of project goals for dissemination to internal project management, external customers, and/or publications.
  • Operate flow cytometry equipment.
  • Isolate, culture, and maintain mammalian cell lines in standard culture for novel cytometry platforms.
  • Manage day to day operations in the lab and support lab growth, organization, and maintenance.

 

 

Education & Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in cell biology, immunology, biomedical engineering, or related fields with 2+ years’ experience in the biotech or flow cytometry industry or similar experience in academia
  • Firsthand experience with flow cytometry equipment
  • Experience and mastery of cell culturing, cell viability assessment, cell labeling, and flow cytometry
  • Firsthand experience with BSL-2 Labs
  • Experience with immunology and/or reproductive biology
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and communication skills.

 

Ideal Candidate:

  • Cell biologist/immunologist/biomedical engineer with several years of flow cytometry experience from a core-facility, academia, or industry
  • Able to work with reproductive cells and mammalian cells related to research and evolving cell therapy applications
  • Experience with microfluidic devices and or an interest in the application of engineering technologies to biological challenges and opportunities
  • A thirst for pushing the limits of cell sorting technologies to meet current and future market needs
