Staff Scientist, Application Development

 

Description

This is a critical role within the Life Science Research Reagent R&D team. The successful candidate will be responsible for successfully driving the development of a wide variety of scientific collateral to support and drive commercialization of new instruments and reagent portfolios. Key to achieving this is the development of novel multicolor flow cytometry applications and scientific content. Included in this is the design of experiments to effectively position the reagent and instrument portfolio in customer facing collateral such as brochures, technical notes, presentations, and web content. With a primary focus on bench science, this position will work closely with the Marketing function to ensure alignment with the overall commercialization strategy. Closely linked to the commercialization strategy, this position will also contribute to the design of future best practices in flow cytometry and provide strategic input on new dye development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, perform, analyze, and troubleshoot multi-color flow cytometry experiments
  • Technical writing and editing of white papers, protocols, applications, bulletins, and product brochures
  • Oral presentations to internal and external audiences
  • Develop a central repository for data and data annotation standards
  • Manage external collaborations
  • Support R&D and marketing for product development and launch requirements
  • Serve as an internal expert in multicolor flow-cytometry. Follow the current best practices in flow and panel design, as well as contribute to the development of future best practices.
  • Support complex flow cytometry systems. This may require the development of new methods and procedures that improve instrument set up/performance/reliability
  • Contribute to the development of high parameter flow cytometry. Provide key inputs into critical marketing and R&D activities as required
  • Identify significant scientific trends or new issues of strategic importance and communicate them to in-house resources as appropriate
  • Maintain a professional image at all times through dress, behavior, oral and written communications

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

·       Requires experience designing, performing, and analyzing >10 color flow cytometry experiments, preferably on BD flow cytometers (LSRII, LSRFortessa, Canto, Aria)

·       Advanced analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills

·       Cell sorting experience preferred

·       Strong understanding of immunology

·       Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

·       Developed organizational, time management, and planning skills to efficiently manage multiple projects

·       Self-starter with a strong work ethic

·       May require some travel

Education and Experience:

·       Requires a PhD in immunology or a related life science discipline with a minimum of 4-8 years of post-doctoral or industry experience

·       Minimum of 4 years of experience operating a flow cytometer
