SUMMARY
Provide high-quality cell sorting to Whitehead Institute investigators, in addition to developing and maintaining a high level of proficiency with all bench-top analyzers, associated software, and peripherals (BD FACSAria IIU SORP, LSRII SORP, BD LSR Fortessa SORP, and BD FACSCalibur with HTS). All duties will be performed in accordance with the Whitehead Institute’s behavioral and safety standards, mission, values and vision.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform high-speed cell sorting for facility users
- Work closely with researchers, maintain high-quality customer relationships, and provide general cell sorting information to researchers. This includes sample requirements, sample collection requirements, safety requirements, troubleshooting, and reporting issues to manager
- Assist with maintenance, quality control, data back-up, and troubleshooting of the sorter and analyzers and report issues to manager
- Interact with vendors and field service engineers, as necessary
- Assist researchers with scheduling needs, manage and track sorting appointments
- Assist with inventory, ordering, and stocking of supplies
- Assists with billing for services
- Become familiar with flow cytometry journals, associations, and resources
- Attend a minimum of one flow cytometry workshop, seminar, vendor show, or core lab visit per year
- Attend a Whitehead Institute retreat
- May perform other duties, as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. degree in biological or physical sciences required
- 0 - 1 year of flow cytometry experience. Training will be provided
- Ability to work flexible hours, including one evening shift per week
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and with a diverse group of people in a customer-service oriented environment
