PUCL #923 Flow Cytometry operator, Beckman Research Institute, Duarte, CA

A full time Flow Cytometry operator position is available in the core facility for a diverse group of researchers at this national cancer institute.  The Analytical Cytometry Core is a shared resource and is equipped with 3 cell sorters (MoFlo, AriaIII, and Aria SORP) and 5 analyzers (Fortessa, CyAn, Gallios, C6 and Guava).  The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, dependable, and able to fulfill a service role in this busy core facility.  The operator will be responsible for day to day instrument calibration, sample acquisition and/or sorting, data analysis, data management and backup, basic laboratory duties, and routine maintenance and trouble shooting of equipment.  The candidate will be involved in assisting researchers with the design, execution, and interpretation of flow cytometry results.  He/She will also keep accurate records of experiments that are run in the facility.   Also, once skills permit, this candidate will be involved in training of new investigators on basic flow cytometry theory, operation of the analytical instrumentation, and utilization of various flow cytometry software programs (Summit, Diva, Flowjo, FCSexpress and Modfit).   He/She must be able to work a somewhat flexible schedule to meet the needs of the facility. Once trained, hours will rotate with others in the core.


Minimum requirements are:

Bachelor's degree in biological sciences.  
Must have excellent computer skills.
Flow Cytometry Experience is preferred
Must be willing to work with complex instrumentation
Have the ability to work with a diverse group of people
Excellent communication and problem solving skills
Ability to work flexible hours

Salary and classification will be commensurate with experience.
