Hello Flowcytometrists,

I am looking for people with knowledge about detection of bacteria or other
small particles in the forward scatter region. I can't discriminate particles
smaller then about .7 micron on FS, because of too much noise in the FS. I'm
working with an Epics Elite at 488 nm (15 mW) with an photodiode as FS
detector. The Centre for Limnology of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology is
looking at field populations of (small) bacteria. Because of the great
variabilty in biological material in the field I want to trigger on FS ( =
size ) as DNA, SS etc. can vary too much. I would like to hear of other
people with experience of small particles and would like to know :

- type/make of equipment
- type of laser and power
- type of Forward Scatter detector
- what is your lower limit?
- how can I improve my equipment?

Thanking you in advance,

Hans Hoogveld.
