Without trying to tackle the first question, a suggestion on the second may be something other than an air-cooled Argon. If you can hold out for a couple more months, Coherent will be releasing their solid state 200mW 488nm Sapphire. I'd love to see someone (other than me) be the guinea pig who tries it out.
