Without trying to tackle the first question, a suggestion on the second
may be something other than an air-cooled Argon.  If you can hold out
for a couple more months, Coherent will be releasing their solid state
200mW 488nm Sapphire.  I'd love to see someone (other than me) be the
guinea pig who tries it out.  On paper it looks good (for the lower
powered 20mW version see
