From: Bob Leif, To: cyto-inbox " In addition, we need to remember that, to all the ISAC members from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia, and South America, travel to one place in North America is just like travel to any other place in North America." I believe that you will find that the flying time from Asia, Australia, and New Zealand to San Diego is significantly shorter than that to Quebec City. As much as I enjoyed the meeting in San Diego, the closest major US location to Asia is Hawaii. In terms of equity, the ISAC meeting should be rotated between the three most economically developed continents: Asia, Europe, and North America. If Asia is presently not to be included, then the least we can do is to meet our colleagues from the East halfway. The most accessible location for Asian travelers in Canada is the city of Vancouver. The ferry ride to the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island is pleasant and would permit visits to or actually holding the meeting in Victoria. -----Original Message----- From: Alice L. Travel within Canada is not considered to be "foreign travel" to scientists and students who live in Canada. Even though a significant part of ISAC membership is from the US, I think it is only fair to move this meeting around and to give different people a chance to travel cheaply and to get travel grants from their home governments or institutions. So let's give the Canadians a break this time. In addition, we need to remember that, to all the ISAC members from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australasia, and South America, travel to one place in North America is just like travel to any other place in North America.
