CD-RW Drives

Hi:

We are slowly moving toward using CD as a means of not only backing up flow
data but all sorts of other data as well (sequencing data and projects...).
We finally purchased one and are on the "learning curve" in understanding
its use (CD-R vs CD-RW, for example).

For an imaging system we purchased a HP CDWriter 8100i. On an IBM, we have
the option of being able to write to the disk and leave the disk *open* for
further additions. Of course, we can close it and effectively "lock it",
which disables any additions as well.

With a disk that has been written to, but kept "open", we can call a
directory listing from other IBM computers. Yet, we are unable to get a
directory listing when using power macs. It seems as though only when the
disk is written to and "closed", can we get a directory listing using a
power mac.

Has anyone else observed this?

Many thanks in advance,
David
