Dear Cynthia,

A lot of really nice work has been done to explore murine stem cells by Ken
Shortman, R. Scollay and collaborators. They published several papers in
the early 1990s including one entitled "A simplified method for enrichment
of mouse hematopoietic stem cell" Exp. Hematol 18:920, 1990 by Spandgrude,
G. J. and Scollay, R. that may be of interest to you. In general, people
exploring murine pluripotent stem cells look for cells that are lineage
marker (Lin-) negative, c-kit (CD117)+, and Sca1+. Various other
methods/markers identifying these cells have been utilized as well. Irving
Weissman's group recently published a paper in Cell identifying a lymphoid
committed progenitor in bone marrow, and I know they have published other
papers in the past dealing with this subject. I would recommend doing a
medline search on any of these individuals and that will give you a place
to start. Good luck!
