We keep data forever, but don't update media formats. We had data that was over
six years old (from the 2151 Ortho!-*NOT* listmode) that we never transformed.
There are many companies that will transfer your data, but it is $$$$ (@$50-100
per disk!).
We now archive BD data on a *PC* SCSI re-writable magneto-optical (the older
5.25" up to 625 MB per side). It was expensive, but newer models are smaller,
cheaper.
CD-ROM might be better (since off-liners can access data), but CELLQuest had
experiment-document quirks the last time the archival discussions were posted.
Check Purdue's BBoard archive.

Iomega ZIP drives (@$200 for the drive and $15 per disk!) would be my choice if
I were starting anew : they're like fast floppies and the drives are
transportable.

This question is for core labs. How long do you keep data for your
investigators?

We are keeping an ancient Easy2 for the sole purpose of accessing data on
minicassettes and I'd love to unload this space hog. Two possibilities come
to mind for the data (besides making it non-available) and I'd like to know
if anyone knows if either is feasible.
1. Remove drive from Easy2 and connect to 486. Possible or not worth effort?
2. Are there companies that will transfer data from old media to new media?
We have about 60 cassettes and that is just too much to do myself.

Or, does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks and if anyone else wants the answers to these questions, let me know and
I'll post a summary.

Kris
