data archival survey

This question is for core labs. How long do you keep data for your
investigators?

We are keeping an ancient Easy2 for the sole purpose of accessing data on
minicassettes and I'd love to unload this space hog. Two possibilities come
to mind for the data (besides making it non-available) and I'd like to know
if anyone knows if either is feasible.
1. Remove drive from Easy2 and connect to 486. Possible or not worth effort?
2. Are there companies that will transfer data from old media to new media?
We have about 60 cassettes and that is just too much to do myself.

Or, does anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks and if anyone else wants the answers to these questions, let me know and
I'll post a summary.
