Historically, the first two-color immunofluorescence systems used a 488
nm argon laser to excite FITC and a 568 nm krypton laser to excite
TexasRed or XRITC; the dye laser at 590 nm provides better excitation,
but the major reason people moved away from 568 nm is that it is hard
to keep the 568 nm light out of the phycoerythrin channel If that's not
a problem, 150 mW at 568 would probably work. -Howard
