Reading the email message from Jim Phillips reminds me that I am scheduled to
organize and give a 3 semester hour graduate level course next fall on flow
cytometry and image analysis. At this point I have done nothing to
organize this course. Fortunately, we now have some excellent published
books on most topics in flow cytometry which makes the task much easier than
in the "old days". However, what would be very useful to me and others I'm
sure would be to have available high quality drawings and schematics showing
general principles, many of which are not found in text books or journals.
Thus, I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might have such
illustrations available, even if only on their topic of expertise. In return
for having access to these, I would be willing to help organize a
'repository' of flow cytometry and image anlaysis schematics and cartoons
etc., classify them by subject area and somehow make them available to the
flow community who are involved in teaching. Paul Robinson--- what do
you think of this idea???--- maybe you can make suggestions along this line.
There are now a number of national center courses given--- obviously with
handouts and illustrations--- maybe a copyright fee could be worked out to
make some of these available to the general teaching group. In addition,
lecture outlines may be useful-- but they can be made quite easily from the
literature-- it's the top quality illustrations that are so time consuming to
make. I would be glad to hear from anyone who can help out on this-- maybe
its something the ISAC education committee would help with??? Any comments
from those of you on that committee? Looking forward to your comments:

Subject: FLOW CYTOMETRY COURSE
Hello To All,

My name is Jim Phillips and I am the flow operator at the University
of Miami School of Medicine Core Facility. We are starting to
organize a course offering in flow cytometry for the graduate students
and we are asking for help and information from any one that has done
this, has ideas about this, has course outlines, laboratory exercises
etc.. We have a tentative course outline now but, input from other
sources is always welcome and greatly appreciated. The course will be
a six week mini course with 15 contact hours. THANKS. P.S. The weather
here is great.
