Re: Dow Corning Silastic Tubing

Adrian -

Dow Corning bailed out of the Silicone tubing business after they got
hit with big time lawsuits for their silicone breast implants. This
happened not long after I arranged the special order you refer to.

The good news (for me) is that, in their eagerness to be rid of liability,
they dumped the whole remainder of the special order on me (about 30 50-ft
coils). The bad news is that I found that their quality control was weak
and most of the tubing is considerably smaller in i.d. than the 0.012 in.
advertised, so that one of the main reasons for the special order was
compromised.

I recently got a quote from St. Gobain Performance Plastics (which bought
out the former SilMed) for a similar special order, but their specs had an i.d.
tolerance of +/- .003", which would leave me open to a repeat of the
Dow Corning
problem.

For anyone who participated in the original special order, I would
be happy to
share the spoils of the Dow Corning debacle. Others who have an interest in
participating in a possible future special order may email me stating their
interest, which might give me some bargaining power for tightening
the tolerance.

Of course, if anyone has already found a good source, please let me know.
