Hi Frank, I would possibly be interested in the dye laser if the price is right. As to the FACS II you may be interested to know that the Smithsonian Institution in Wash, D.C. in the US houses a FACS II and was unable, apparently, to obtain the FACS I and keeps their FACS II warehoused only for view by special appointment through Pamela Henson or R. Kondratas. (from Shapiro 3rd Edition, pg.476, pg. 62) I tried to get a viewing however and could not get in contact with Kondratas although Pamela Henson was able to provide me with the 10+ hour video history of the Cell Sorter which turns out is more a video history of Becton-Dickinson and Coulter. (Becton and Dickinson were importers of glass hypodermic syringes) Gene Pizzo Manager, Flow Cytometry Facility UCONN Health -----Original Message----- From: facs_copy [mailto:facs_copy@wehi.edu.au] Sent: Thursday, May 16, 2002 3:35 AM To: cyto-inbox Subject: Historically significant FACS II available Our FACS II, the southern hemisphere's first cell sorter, is being retired from WEHI after 25 years service. Not just an historical artifact, the instrument is still in use until its last operation on 28th June 2002 when it is to be replaced by a high speed cell sorter. We invite expressions of interest in its acquisition. The system is as follows: Customized, dual laser (including dye laser) optical bench. Optics and electronics modified for dual, vertically-displaced laser beams. Modified for 6-parameter plus elapsed time acquisition from 7 detectors (FSC + 4PMT + 2PMT). Modified for computer data acquisition (LSI 11/73 with RT11; *not* Y2K compliant). Non-standard, dual dot-plot displays. No lasers will be included. Contact us directly for a full and frank discussion of its condition.
