Hi, There should be no need to transform the files at all, just copy them across using a PC formatted floppy disc or Zip disc, or use a raw binary ftp transfer. If you are using ftp to transfer across a network, make sure that the server and client don't convert the files to a binhex (.hqx) or macbinary (.bin) format, since this would change the files' contents in a way that PCs don't understand (binhex turns bytes into pairs of ascii digits among other things, and macbinary adds a mac-specific header to the data in the file so that it can survive on foreign files systems and be re-constituted on a mac with the right icons etc) WinMDI is a little picky over names, so it would be worth changing the file names to DOS compatible 8.3 ones eg myfile.001 rather than myfilename.001, but other than that you should have no problems. I've occasionally had local users try to open CellQuest "layout" (flask and test tube icon) and instrument settings (no icon) files, but as long as you're using the FCS data files (0101 icon), you shouldn't have a problem. If you'd like more help, please e-mail a copy of one of the files that doesn't work with WinMDI (to rh208@cam.ac.uk), and I'll see if I can give a more useful answer, Cheers, Ray > From: "Jaime Sanchez-Dardon MSc." <jsanchez@microimm.mcgill.ca> > Organization: McGill University, Flow Cytometry > Reply-To: jsanchez@microimm.mcgill.ca > Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2001 10:22:20 -0400 > To: Cytometry Mailing List <cytometry@flowcyt.cyto.purdue.edu> > Subject: Mac to PC > > > Hi Flowers, can anybody tell me if is possible to transform a Mac's Cell Quest > acquisition file into > a PC file in order to analyze it with WinMDI? > I have a conversion program and I'd try every single possibility but WinMDI > refuse to > open the > files. > Many thanks > > Jaime Sanchez-Dardon > Flow Cytometry > McGill University > >
