I had the same problem with a few of my files when I translated them using a program called HP reader. I thought it might have something to do with the length of my file name (ie: it was too long and the dot was put after the recommended length?) I did manage to change the names by removing the dot using windows explorer, but it did not work with every file. The ones with a zero for a last digit (eg: .010, .020) seemed to be resistant to reading by WinMDI, and I just imported them manually, rather than fighting with the computer any more.
