Dear flow-ers, I am very much surprise and in a shock after learning from
the board that some people can take up to 1 ml from the heart of a mice.
Just from the mouse point of view, 1 ml represent about 20-25% of the whole
blood volumen and even for an expert mice heart surgeon, to take such
volumen will produce a shock in the animal. Just for comparison, if you
take from a human donor, 25% of blood, it means that you are producing a
non-reversible hypovolemic shock in a patient. I imagine that the lawsuits
will flood your place. I do not know the rules for animal experimentation
in other places but the rules that I do know, only allow to take not more
than 200 ul of blood each three weeks. I imagine that you will have to
write to the board that review your application for animal experimentation,
your procedures and how you will treat your animals. Taking 1 ml of blood
from the heart is not VIP treatment. I really question the legality,
benefits and scientific grounds for such invasive procedures.
Rafael
