Dr. Fumio Ike,

I replaced the hard disk drive in our Bering unit (model 01-10065-BDREV.L)
several years ago. The HDD inside our unit was manufactured by Seagate, but
I do not remember the model number. When I called Seagate to buy a
replacement, I was told that the HDD was no longer manufactured; however, a
newer model (ST5660N) was available that was compatible with the old one.
The ST5660N works fine, but not all of the 545MB is accessable. Only the
same amount of storage as the original drive's capacity (approximately 200MB)
is available. I didn't bother to figure out why this was so.

The Seagate ST5660N is a SCSI drive. The Quantum Pro Drive LPS 120/140
was made as either SCSI or ATA according to these links:

http://www.quantum.com/support/archive/prolps120_scsi_support.htm
http://www.quantum.com/support/archive/prolps120_ata_support.htm

You can determine the interface type of your HDD by referring to:

http://www.quantum.com/src/configs/model_ref_guide.htm

You can try to contact quantum <http://www.quantum.com/> to see if they
make a replacement for your HDD, or you can search the internet for
someone selling your exact HDD. Yahoo! <http://www.yahoo.com/> found

http://www.auctiontrader.com.au/ppauction/program/list.cfm?closing=1

which I noticed has this item up for auction

19483 . 1 Quantum ProDrive LPS 240MB SCSI HDD . ( OPEN )
Opening Bid:-$3.00.   || Current Bid:$3.00 ||
Close Date/Time:- 27 October, 2000 / 23:36:00

It certainly would be nice to get your replacement part so inexpensively.

Good luck,
Eric
