Simon,
We have used R123 to sort cells per their p-Gp status for years.  You can use it with
surface markers rather effectively.  We've also used R123 and surface labels in
combination
with indo1 to measure subset calcium level vs p-Gp status.  (Witkowski JM and Miller RA.
Calcium signal abnormalities in murine T lymphocytes that express the multidrug
transporter
P-glycoprotein.  Mechanisms of Ageing and Development 170:165-180, 1999.)
