HLA-DR CD8+ cells in generalized solid malignancies

Dear flow gurus,

Our laboratory has been introduced in a non-gratefull campain of determination of PBL subsets changes in advanced solid malignancies, especially (because it's my part of a deal) metastatic melanoma. We have been working on the prob for a quite of time, evaluating different kinds of antigens expression, but we didn't noticed (as it was already confirmed a long time ago) some striking differences when comparing these values with healthy subjects controls.
We have also analysed activation antigens expression, and in that point I would like to ask a few questions:
When analysing activation antigens on a different subsets (for example CD38 on CD8, or HLA-DR on CD3 and CD8), would it be better to express values as a percentage of all PBL, or as a percentage of analysed subset (our choice)?
Also, analysing HLA-DR expression on CD8 positive cells, we obtained generally higher values (in healthy subjects as well as in patients) than the values found in the literature. In that point, could anyone enlight the poor soul of mine with some fresh references concerning the meaning of HLA-DR antigen expression on CD8 cells, (especially non-AIDS diseases), and also some of numerous articles about adult reference values.
Hey, if there is anyone out there working on a similar problem, please contact me.

Thank in advance

Viktor
