Hi Mara, I wonder how many people are actually using proprietary sheath fluids? We certainly aren't. I use normal PBS which is made in-house simply beacuse it is quite convenient. There are some people who use distilled water I believe. Since there should be no mixing of the sheath and sample fluids, you can use anything as long as the refractive index of both fluids is similar. Saline can cause salt build up so you will also need to have a regular cleaning procedure in place.
