Hello David, well this is not true, I don't know for the latest G4s, they might only run on OS 9, but I installed it on one G4 of the early generation (400 Mhz), and then went back to 8.6. You have to boot through a 8.6 System disk, zap the Parameter Ram (techtool 1.1.9) or Cmd-Alt-P-R after restart, and then format the HD with the 8.6 driver. At least this worked ok for me... But ask on the www.apple.com tech exchange board (or search those pages) there are a lot of useful hints and tips concerning OS9 etc.. Good luck, Matthias _____________________________________ Prof. Dr. Matthias Haury Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia Rua Da Quinta Grande N° 6 - Apt.14 P-2781-901 Oeiras Codex Portugal Email: mhaury@igc.gulbenkian.pt Tel: + 351 21 440 79 85 Office Tel: + 351 21 440 79 10 Secretary Fax: + 351 21 440 79 70 _____________________________________ At 12:33 -0600 6/03/2000, David.McFarland@mcmail.vanderbilt.edu wrote: >In answer to your query: Failing that does anyone know how to remove OS9 in >order to install OS8.6, Our computer >manager is having a tough time getting Cellquest to run on a new G4 MAC. > >I've been told that once you upgrade to OS9, you can't go back to older >versions.
