In response to David McFarland and others: I have never heard that it is impossible to downgrade from one MacOS to another (e.g. From OS9 to OS 8.6). However, some of the new G4s (with the Sawtooth motherboard, i.e. AGP graphics) and the new G3 PowerBooks (Pismo) may not be downgradable, since they can only run on MacOS9 or newer. Visit http://www.info.apple.com/applespec/applespec.taf to see what is the minimum MacOS for your Mac. Otherwise, a downgrade may be completed by booting the computer from a MacOS 8.6 CD-ROM (hold down the "C"-KEY on restart), trashing the existing system folder and reinstalling MacOS 8.6. Take care if you have 3rd party system extensions that you want to keep ( make sure to remove them from the OS9 system folder before you trash it). It is not possible to do a simple system install when downgrading from one OS to another. Regards Ulrik Sprogøe-Jakobsen Dept. Clinical Immunology Odense University Hospital
