I remember a similar problem with Cytomation's (CyClops?) software a few years ago. It seems that some programs need to be able to write in order to read. So, if you're trying to read from a CD, it's a no go. If we copied the data from the CD to the hard disk it worked fine. I'm guessing you'll have the same problem if you try to look at data on a locked disk; floppy, zip, MO, whatever. I've been following the CD-Recorder file problem thread, but for the most part it seemed to be a MAC-to-PC issue . . . I was wrong. So, I'm using a CD-Recorder (Smart & Friendly) to archive data generated from my Elite (Coulter's MSDOS Elite software). I use Adaptec's CD Creator software in Win98 to actually create the archive CD. Now, here's the problem . . . When I restore the saved data, I can no longer read these files in the Elite software. I can see the data using WinMDI, and I can even look at the data with CellQuest (once I run FACSConvert on the MAC, of course). Inspection of the files reveals no obvious change. Any ideas?
